Our Cause
We have chosen to sponsor the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research during our rally, and we hope you will show your support for this vital and worthwhile cause.
When the participants of the original Peking to Paris rally crossed the finish line, they proved that the word “impossible” is often applied to situations where it doesn’t belong. Ingenuity, courage and a staunch refusal to accept the limits the world placed on them inspired these men to show, once and for all, that thousands of miles of remote and inhospitable terrain were no match for humans and their wonderful inventions—even if those inventions required a hand-crank and a running start!
Today, thankfully, humans are still fighting to extend the frontiers of what is considered possible, and that is certainly true of the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
Established in 2000, the Foundation is dedicated to pinpointing the cause of Parkinson’s disease and uncovering a cure within our lifetimes. Since its inception, it has funded almost $184 million in research that can lead to the creation of better Parkinson’s treatment.
Parkinson’s disease is a neurodegenerative disorder that affects nearly five million people worldwide. While advancing age remains the greatest risk factor, PD can strike people even under age 30. It is not yet known what causes the disease, and as yet there is no cure.
